Creating and deleting documents
Create a document
It all starts with a blank page. (Good thing Ellipsus makes that part easy.)
Document creation and management takes place in your dashboard.
To create a new document:
Click the + New button in the top-left corner of your dashboard
Choose from the dropdown menu:
Blank document
From template
Import Markdown (.md)
Blank document
Choose Blank document to start from scratch. You can begin typing immediately, and your changes will save automatically.
Once you’re in the editor, check out:
Format your document for styling options
Create and merge drafts to experiment with versions or solicit feedback without overwriting your work
Create from template
Select From template to open the template picker. You’ll find detailed templates for world-building, story outlines, character sheets, relationship trackers, and more.
Just click a template to open it as a new document—then write, edit, collaborate, or draft as usual.
Import from Markdown
Have something (or a lot of things) you’ve written elsewhere? Choose Import Markdown (.md) to bring it into Ellipsus.
We currently support .md
files. For full import steps, see Import your existing documents.
Document duplication
You can also create copies of your documents:
Click the three dots dropdown menu for the document you want to duplicate
Select Duplicate (two pages icon) from the menu
New folder
Ready to start organizing your docs? You can also create a new folder from the + New dropdown menu. Check out this article to read more about folders and organization.
Delete a document
To delete a document:
Hover over the document card in your dashboard or folder
Click the three dots dropdown menu
Select Delete (trash bin icon) from the menu
Note: Deleting a document removes it from Ellipsus, but don’t worry, if you delete something by accident, we can restore it.
To restore a document, email support@ellipsus.com with the document URL (if you have it) or the approximate deletion time, and we’ll help recover it quickly.
