Export your docs and drafts
Download copies of your work
There are currently three download options:
Download as .docx: .docx files preserve most rich text formatting, including headings, paragraph spacing, text styling, and images, and comments.
Download as PDF: Your PDF download includes links, styling, formatting, and images. (Comments cannot be exported with PDF as of now.)
Download as Markdown (.md): Markdown is a simple markup language. Some formatting elements and images won’t be included in your .md file. (Comments cannot be exported with Markdown as of now.)
Copy your current text
You can copy the current draft or doc and paste it into another program. We offer three options:
Copy as HTML: Links, colors, text decorations, and alignment options will be included; fonts, indents, and custom paragraph spacing won’t.
Copy as Markdown: Markdown is a simple markup language. Some elements of our rich text editor—like fonts, colors, and indents—won’t carry over when you copy your text.
Copy as Rich Text: Links, colors, text decorations, and alignment options will be included; fonts, indents, and custom paragraph spacing won’t.
Export your work to Archive of Our Own
Archive of Our Own is a project managed by the Organization for Transformative Works. The non-profit, non-commercial archive hosts transformative fanworks, in particular, fan fiction.
With Ellipsus, you can quickly copy your current doc or draft to post it as a new work or chapter. You can also open your existing chapters to publish edits.
Post a new work
You’ll need to log into AO3 in the current browser to post a new work.
Navigate to the doc or draft you want to share, then open Share and export and click Export to AO3. This will open a new screen. Click + New work to copy your current view as HTML and open AO3 in a new tab.
Once AO3 is open, you can paste your text into the Work text field and update your title, tags, and other metadata.
View existing works
You can also view a list of your current works (and their chapters in Ellipsus). After clicking Export to AO3, you can enter your AO3 username (not pseuds) to generate a list of your current works.
We use AO3’s publicly available URLs to display works and chapters. We do not store any passwords, and you can only post to a linked account if you are logged into it on AO3.
Post or edit chapters in existing works
After entering your AO3 username, you can post new works or chapters or edit existing chapters with your Ellipsus writing.
Click the arrow next to a work to reveal its chapters. From this view, you can click + New chapter to add a chapter to that work or click on the pencil icon to edit an existing chapter.
Both options will copy your current view as HTML and open AO3 in a new tab.
“Sorry, you don’t have permission to access the page. you were trying to reach.”
If you see this message after opening AO3, you’re not logged into that username. Log in to continue posting.
