My comments are missing

My draft has comments, but they're not connected to the text / comment highlights are missing

If you can still see the comments in the comments panel, but they're no longer connected to the text or you can't see the comment highlights, it's likely that the reference point for that comment was edited in a way that removed that connection.

Some things that can break comment references/highlights include:

  • Cutting and pasting text (e.g. rearranging sentences or paragraphs)

  • Inserting new line/paragraph breaks inside of a section of text with a comment attached

Note: Resolved comments are hidden by default, but you can still view those comments in the comment panel by enabling them in the Filter comments settings menu in the comments panel.

I received a comment notification, but the comment is missing

Comment notifications are handled separately from the comments themselves, so if you're getting those but no comments, it's likely a synchronizing issue. Ellipsus tries to store everything locally in your browser as you write, while syncing ensures updates (including comments) are saved to our servers and carry over between devices and collaborators.

Give the comments some time to make their way to you, but if they still aren't showing up, or you or your collaborator are seeing sync issues, check out our troubleshooting guide for synchronizer issues.
