What is Ellipsus? Who are you?
What is Ellipsus?
Ellipsus is a writing tool that makes it easy to write, edit, collaborate, and share your work—without generative AI, and without handing your words or data over to Big Tech.
We started with a collaborative text editor and have since built out a full suite of writing features: drafting and version control, organization, version history, real-time collaboration, visual customization, sharing via Reader links, and lots more. In 2026, we launched Ellipsus Plus—a paid plan to help fund the long-term future of Ellipsus, with features like custom themes, Emboss (proof-of-work), and writing insights.
The free plan remains free, with unlimited documents, drafts, collaborators, sync, and sharing, and it always will be. See Is Ellipsus free? for more.
What features are you working on?
So far, we've built the basics of text editing, collaborating, drafting, organization, visual customization, and sharing—plus the Ellipsus Plus feature set. But like every WIP, Ellipsus will never be “done”. We’ll keep improving the Plus and free plans (with lots of big things on the horizon).
Visit our ideas board to check out upcoming feature ideas, add your own, upvote what matters most to you, and follow along with our progress.
We love to collaborate, so be sure to share feedback and ideas with our Discord community too!
Who are you people?
Ellipsus was founded in 2023 by John and Rex (co-founders, writers, and partners of more than a decade), inspired by the drama of trying to write a novel together. They live in Berlin with two dachshunds and a ton of books, and are building Ellipsus with the team based in Europe.
