We want Ellipsus to feel fast and seamless across all devices and browsers. But sometimes things can slow down, and it helps to know whether you’re running into network lag (the page is slow to load or gets stuck) or input lag (your typing or clicks feel delayed).

Network lag (slow to load)

If the issue is with the page itself taking forever to open or sync, try:

  • Switching networks—move from Wi-Fi to cellular, or try a hotspot.

  • Disable browser extensions, VPNs, or privacy blockers—these can interfere with syncing.

  • Try another browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Safari) to see if it’s browser-specific.

  • Open Ellipsus on another device to check if it’s machine-specific.

Input lag (typing or scrolling feels delayed)

If your keystrokes or clicks seem sluggish, or aren’t showing up immediately:

  • Compare documents—check whether the lag only happens in a large or complex doc vs. a smaller one.

  • Disable resource-intensive features—turn off spell check, clear the find & replace search bar, or hide invisible characters.

  • Close other heavy apps/tabs that might be hogging memory.

  • Try a different browser, or incognito mode—sometimes browser extensions can interfere with performance.

If you’re still having trouble

While we make ongoing efforts to ensure Ellipsus works across a range of conditions, individual/local device, browser, and network factors mean we can never eliminate lag fully, and it is possible that your devices might not be able to handle certain features or larger works.

Submit a report so our team can take a look. We will need the following information:

  • What are the lag symptoms you’re experiencing? Can you share a screen recording?

  • Is this happening on mobile, desktop, both?

  • Which device / browser are you using?

    • How much memory (RAM) and storage does your device have?

  • Are you using any browser extensions or a VPN? If so, which ones?

  • Is this across all documents, or certain works?

    • If only specific works, could you share:

      • The approximate word count?

      • The URL(s)?

      • Whether the work was written entirely in Ellipsus, or elsewhere? If transferred in from another source, where and how?

  • Do the issues persist across browsers? How about in a private browsing session?

  • Do you have other apps or tabs running?

    • Could you share some details—how many, which apps, etc.?

    • Does the issue improve if you close those?

  • Does the issue improve if you disable resource-intensive features (e.g. turn off spell check, clear the find & replace search bar, or hide invisible characters)?

  • Does it persist across networks?

  • A copy of your logs and stored data (available in your settings page) from the device + browser where you're experiencing the issues, or where you do most of your writing if you're experiencing trouble in multiple places.
