Ellipsus is designed to work across all modern devices and browsers, but some configurations can cause issues with syncing, lag, or visual glitches that our team may not be able to troubleshoot/resolve. We provide these details as a general set of recommendations to help set expectations for support and performance.

Device support
In general, Ellipsus works across most mobile and desktop (computer) devices with sufficient hardware to run internet-based applications and support for the required web technologies (e.g. JavaScript). Devices with operating systems or hardware below our recommendations may still be able to use Ellipsus normally.
Recommended desktop specifications
- Windows ≥ 10
- macOS ≥ Sonoma (14)
- Linux (varies by distribution; see browser support)
- RAM ≥ 12GB
Recommended mobile specifications
- Android ≥ 13
- iOS ≥ 15
- RAM ≥ 8GB
Unsupported devices
While it may be possible to use Ellipsus with uncommon devices or hardware that falls outside of our recommendations, performance varies greatly (if and when it is possible) even if they otherwise meet the listed criteria. Additionally, you may encounter a variety of issues that our team will likely be unable to help troubleshoot and resolve.
Some examples of unsupported (meaning Ellipsus has not been designed or intended to function optimally) devices include:
- E-readers and other e-ink devices
- Game consoles
- iPods and other mp3 players
- Smart watches
- Smart televisions or other appliances
- "Minimal" devices (e.g. modern flip phones)

Safari (iOS) ≥ 15.8
Firefox ≥ 115
Firefox for Android ≥ 130
Opera ≥ 113
Opera Mobile ≥ 80
Samsung Internet ≥ 28
Android Chrome ≥ 129
UC Browser for Android ≥ 15.5
Browsers that may cause issues
We’ve seen issues pop up from:
Outdated browser versions—especially those more than a few releases behind.
Specialty browsers that interfere with device storage or network access (e.g. certain niche or third-party mobile browsers).
Heavy privacy browsers that restrict network traffic, access to device storage, or clear cache on closing.
Browser extensions/add-ons that restrict/scan traffic or impact appearance or behavior across all sites.
These issues can affect syncing, overall performance, and visual bugs.
Important: We do not recommend using Ellipsus in private browsing sessions, Incognito Mode, or Guest Mode. These prevent data from being saved in your browser, so if something goes wrong and work is lost, it will be impossible for us to help you recover it.
Network support
Ellipsus requires both an active, stable connection to the network and sufficient bandwidth in order to reach the necessary services and sync your work. Issues with either can cause lag and/or syncing issues.
Additionally, some institutions and countries block certain apps or subdomains. If you’re on a managed (e.g. work, school) network, ask your IT team to allowlist:
ellipsus.comproduction-api.ellipsus.comAny related subdomains.
VPNs
Virtual private networks (VPNs) may enable a successful connection in scenarios where Ellipsus services might otherwise be inaccessible, but can also come with their own limitations and risks. If you are using a VPN, we recommend familiarizing yourself with any relevant local laws and the potential privacy, security, and connectivity impacts of your chosen VPN.
Not sure if your local environment is causing the issue?
If something feels off—like frequent sync issues, documents failing to load contents, or text lagging behind your typing—try Ellipsus in a different browser, a recently updated device, or another network. If the issue disappears, something in your local setup is likely the culprit.
