Write, edit, and merge changes using the mobile web app.

Updated this week

Create documents and drafts

To start writing on your phone, tap New document at the top of your dashboard. From there, you can either import a Markdown file or create a blank document.

Working in the editor on your phone

When you first create or open a document, you’ll see the text editor and formatting bar, but there’s lots more behind the scenes!

At the top of your editor, you’ll see several options, like the:

  • left-hand panel

  • sync indicator

  • word count

  • notification center

  • right-hand panel

Tap the stacked document icon at the top left to open the left-hand panel. (You can learn more about docs and drafts here.) From this view, you can:

  • Create and manage drafts

  • Navigate back to your dashboard

  • Toggle between light and dark mode

Tap the three lines on the top right to open the right-hand panel and reveal your editing, collaboration, and sharing options.

The most frequent formatting options—undo/redo, bold, and italics—are pinned to the top of the editor for easy access.

Format, edit, and restore text.

You can accomplish almost anything with our mobile web app. Check out other help center articles to learn about editing your docs in Ellipsus.

Create a draft

Drafts give you (and your collaborators) space to iterate and experiment. There are two ways to create a draft on mobile.

From the left-hand panel

Tap the three-dot menu on your document card and tap New draft. Or, if you want to duplicate an existing draft, tap its three-dot menu and select Duplicate.

From the right-hand panel

Scroll to the bottom and select Create a draft.

Merge a draft

When you’re ready to move to the next stage of your writing, you can merge your draft with your main document.

Open you draft and tap the three lines on the top right to open the right-hand panel. Scroll to the bottom and tap Compare changes to open the compare screen.

Tap Main + changes to see how your current draft compares to the main document. This view will likely have some color coding:

  • Text highlighted in green will be added to the main document

  • Text highlighted in red will be removed

  • Text that is not highlighted will be unchanged

If you want to edit your draft before merging, tap the draft name on the left to reveal it. You can continue to edit your text in this view.

Tap Merge in the top right when you’re ready to merge your draft into the main document. Once merged, your original document will be updated with the latest changes and the current draft will be closed and set to Merged.
