Troubleshooting errors

Encounter an error screen while writing? Here's what you can do.

My changes aren’t syncing

If your connection status turns red, there are three possibilities:

  • You’re offline

  • Your device is out of sync with the Ellipsus server

  • We’re experiencing an issue with our server

You’re offline

This one’s easy. Check your internet connection and go back online. Until then, you can keep writing in Ellipsus—your work will sync to our server once you’re back online. Please don’t refresh the app while working offline.

Your device is out of sync

This is probably the most common cause of syncing issues. In this scenario, your changes are saved locally, but have not been sent to our server. To reconnect to our server, simply refresh your browser, or quit and reopen the mobile web app.

Ellipsus is experiencing an issue

Sometimes it’s not you, it’s us. If you’ve gone through the above steps and your work still isn’t syncing, there’s a chance that Ellipsus is experiencing an issue. In that case, we suggest:

  • Keeping your browser open—your work will continue to save locally.

  • Reaching out to us via the in-app messenger so we can take a closer look.

I don't see my changes on another device

If you don't see your changes on another device, then it's likely the changes made on your original device didn't sync to our server. Try refreshing your browser (or quitting and reopening the mobile web app) to resync your changes.

Reach out via our in-app messenger (which is also available from this help center) so we can help you get to the bottom of this issue.

In order to diagnose the issue, we'll need:

  • A brief explanation of what you were trying to accomplish (e.g., were you trying to merge a draft?)

  • Your console logs, which you can download from the account settings page.
